last year Burgess Building Maintenance, with the assistance of our electrical engineers, began work on a local listed barn conversion project.

The team turned this beautiful barn into a contemporary office space with traditional methods used throughout, whilst keeping as many of the original features as possible.

With this being a refurbishment of a historical building, various techniques have been used to avoid any damage to the existing features. Work on this listed property, from a team of trade experts, included:

  • Full repointing in traditional lime with any damaged or loose bricks replaced.
  • New electrics and plumbing to allow for offices, disabled toilets, and small kitchen.
  • Fully insulated and plastered in traditional methods.
  • New drainage including pumping station and klargester.
  • New sub floor and floor finishings throughout.
  • Redecoration throughout in breathable paint.
  • New bespoke oak windows and bifolds/screens.
  • Roof repaired and bat boxes installed.

Our electrical engineers finished the first fix before the stud work could be completed for the bespoke oak screens, insulation, plus screeding and plastering, leaving some of the timbers exposed as a feature. We then returned to complete the second fix electrics, including all fixtures and fittings plus electric radiators, emergency lighting and new feature lighting for a comfortable modern working space.

This has been an exciting project to be a part of, and we are all delighted with the results!
